It’s been found that diabetics are 65 per cent more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease. Having diabetes is also associated with loss of memory, mental functioning, speech and visuospatial skills.
These findings were based on nine years of data from 824 Catholic priests and nuns, 127 of whom had diabetes and 151 of whom went on to develop Alzheimer's (Arch Neurol, 2004; 61: 661-6).
